Hope + Stephen

August 27, 2016

Hope and Stephen were married on a perfect August day at Christ Community Chapel. The gorgeous bride wore a classically stunning gown from Elyse's Boutique with a leaf lace pattern and heirloom veil. The groom and groomsmen sported suites from Men's Warehouse. The lush vivid florals were designed by the amazing Baumann's Florist and Greenhouse. It was such an honor to capture so many endearing moments throughout the day! From the couple's gift exchange to the father daughter first look and prayers over the couple we were getting teary eyed to see such beauty. Stephen and Hope are truly amazing individuals and together God will do an incredible work in their marriage. The sanctuary was bathed in beautiful purple tones and candlelight which made for a perfect backdrop for their nuptials. After a bubble send off the couple rode away in a red hot Chevy Camaro. The Greek Community Center sparkled with rich gold and purple hues. Crystal candle light votives danced on the table tops next to jewels and flower petals. The beautiful flower draped cake by Crest Bakery was nestled next to candles on a purple velvet table and resembled a fairytale mood. Hope and Stephen's first dance took place under a canopy of stars. The sensational Dominic from Donatelli Entertainment was the master of ceremonies that delivered a perfect soundscape and party atmosphere for party goers. We are so excited for this couple and wish them so many blessings on their wonderful journey together in this amazing adventure! Congratulations again Hope and Stephen!

From Hope:

Stephen and I first met when we were six years old. We had one mutual friend, Davis. I was certain that Davis and I were better friends than he was with Stephen…but I still saw Stephen as the competition. One Sunday after Sunday School, I cornered Stephen and told him, “Stay away from Davis. He’s MY friend” in my most stern, bossy, and convincing 6-year-old voice. Stephen is an introvert and he barely knew me, so at the ripe age of six, this bossy brunette with a threatening look in her eye terrified him. Shortly after this, I moved away – back to Ohio – and we didn’t see each other again for 13 years. Thirteen years later, Stephen was still wary of me, since all he remembered of me was that one interaction. I, however, had no recollection of this confrontation, so I was blissfully unaware that he was nervous to meet me again. This time, we met when I came to St. Joseph, MI in 2013 to spend the summer working for and living with Davis’s family. We spent quite a bit of time together that summer, because he and Davis are best friends (he clearly did NOT listen to my threat and did not stay away from Davis), and he eventually told me the story of his very first memory of me. By the end of the summer, we were “an item”, and were not sure how the long-distance relationship would go. I was in nursing school at the University of Akron and he was going to Bethel College in Indiana. When I left that summer, we decided that we would take it one day at a time: our relationship could’ve lasted two weeks, two months, or two years. But (with the help of FaceTime!) it lasted! I returned to Michigan for two more summers and almost two years to the day after we started dating, he proposed on the beach at Grand Mere State Park on Lake Michigan. At our wedding, Davis was, of course, the best man and takes full credit for our relationship in the first place. The distance did not make our relationship easier, but I believe that we are much more grateful to be together now because of it. We’ve settled in Mishawaka, IN, where I am working as a RN in the Surgical ICU at a nearby hospital, and Stephen is finishing up his last year at The University of Notre Dame, studying Electrical Engineering. We don’t know where we’ll end up, but we are excited to be able to go through life together as husband and wife!
